Chavez: Elect Obama to Destroy America

It sounds harsh, does it not?  Hugo Chavez, ailing president of Venezuela, has just publicly endorsed Barack Obama’s re-election:

CARACAS, Sept 30 (Reuters) – With both presidents facing tight re-election fights, Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez gave a surprise endorsement to Barack Obama on Sunday – and said the U.S. leader no doubt felt the same.

So why does America-hating, Castro-mentored socialist Chavez think that Obama is the proper choice for America?  The answer can be seen in Chavez’ long-held view that America must be destroyed in order for the rest of the world to survive. For example, even as his personal relationship with Obama was high, he made a speech in Russia three years ago:

Chavez who travelled to Russia last week, reiterated that now more than ever people are becoming aware of the need to free the world of American sovereignty. Chavez who spoke at the University of Friendship University of Russia, in Moscow assured that the American “Empire” will be wiped off the planet during the present century. He added: “If the United States does not collapse humanity will and therefore a choice must be made. Most of the countries of the world are allied empires which devour people; now a new unity has developed among countries that is to their advantage. If we do not destroy the political, economic, military rule that Imperialism wishes to impose on the world, we will slip into barbarism. Russia has risen to this occasion and things must continue as such.”

He really doesn’t like us. And his people love him — so say the newspapermen (or they go to jail, if they say otherwise). Back in 2009, he and Obama actually saw eye to eye on many things: as Newsweek put it at the time, “We Are All Socialists Now” and they bragged about how quickly we would become  “even more French.”  But while Chavez has attacked Obama as being “the shame of Africans” and “a disappointment to the world’s progressives,” it hasn’t stopped the Obama administration from heaping praise on Chavez on socialism, something that Labor Secretary Hilda Solis has done on multiple occasions.  This is no surprise; there are lots of communist supporters in the administration; Solis herself sent a representative to give a presentation at the Communist Party USA convention, and we’ve all heard the fondness of others in the administration for communist leaders, from their own statements.

I should note that just because Obama is the choice of dictators around the world, it does not mean that he in turn supports them. (Despite Chavez’s assertions.)  To learn more about that, one must look at his actions. I have some thoughts about those as well…
